Education Pathway

This pathway is the primary driver of impact for students with dyslexia. Its mission is to ensure early identification, evidence-based instruction, and equitable access to resources for learners, while preparing educators and raising public understanding of dyslexia as a neurobiological difference and potential strength.

Dyslexia affects up to 1 in 5 individuals nationally, yet in Region 20 of Texas only 5.2% of students are identified, leaving many without support. Teachers and schools face shortages of qualified professionals and limited access to high-quality training in structured literacy.

By connecting schools, families, medical professionals, and community partners – and through awareness campaigns, community exhibits, and partnerships with institutes of higher education, the arts, and sports organizations – this initiative addresses systemic gaps, celebrates dyslexic strengths, and fosters a culture that encourages early testing, intervention, and lifelong learning.

Our Work in Action

Expand Early
Identification Systems

Build partnerships that align educational and medical screening tools to identify dyslexia
earlier and more consistently to include
well-child visits and awareness and use
of district protocols.

Increase Access
Through Collaboration

Develop cross-sector partnerships that
reduce geographic, financial, and systemic barriers to diagnosis, intervention, education,
and workforce readiness; using the data to develop workforce best practices aligned with San Antonio’s most in-demand career fields.

Strengthen
Professional Capacity

Provide high-quality professional development that reinforces evidence-based, structured literacy practices and offers pathways for teachers to become Certified Academic Language Therapists.

Develop Evidence-based, Open-source Dyslexia Therapy Curriculum

Expand beyond our existing educational
program to increase access to effective, culturally relevant reading instruction,
ensuring every learner is seen, understood,
and equipped with the right to read.

Transform Public
Understanding

Lead awareness campaigns, community programs, and exhibits that celebrate dyslexic strengths, destigmatize the condition, and influence policy, perception, and practice at
local, state, and national levels.
