Celebrate Dyslexia Launches Parent Academy to Empower Families Navigating Dyslexia in Public Schools

San Antonio, TX — September 18, 2024

Celebrate Dyslexia, in collaboration with Celebrate Dyslexia Schools, is launching a new Parent Academy designed to equip families in the public school system with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate dyslexia diagnosis, services, and accommodations.

The Parent Academy will offer a comprehensive series of six courses to help parents understand how to identify dyslexia and advocate effectively for their children’s educational success. Course topics include Dyslexia 101, Screening and Next Steps, Evaluation and Identification, Dyslexia Instruction, Dysgraphia, and One-on-one discussions to address individual student needs.

Each course provides an in-depth review of the 2021 Texas Dyslexia Handbook, ensuring parents understand their students’ rights, available resources, and the supports schools are required to provide. Development of all course presentations has been completed, positioning the academy for immediate rollout.

To introduce the Parent Academy during Dyslexia Awareness Month, Celebrate Dyslexia will host a series of virtual “Lunch and Learn” sessions for parents every Monday in October. Sessions will be donation-based to increase accessibility for families.

The first Lunch and Learn will take place on October 2, 2024, with additional sessions continuing throughout the month.

“Parents are often their child’s strongest advocates, but many don’t know where to start,” said Jasmin Dean, Founder of Celebrate Dyslexia. “This academy is designed to remove barriers, clarify the process, and empower families with actionable information.”
